Current Status of Fukushima and the Energy Problems in Germany Arising from Nuclear Energy

Radiation Physicist Yüksel Atakan who attended the seminar as speaker mentioned about the details of the nuclear accident in Fukushima which occured as a consequence of the earthquake and the tsunami on March 11, 2011, and the protective measures that cause accidents and have been ignored since 1970. Stating that the effects to the lives of people living within a 20-30 km radius of the accident are reviewed along with the measures taken in power plant area and its surrounding in last 6 years, Dr. Atakan enumerated the lessons to be learnt for all the active or planned power plants around the world. In the second session of the seminar, Dr. Atakan informed about Germany’s decision to phase out the use of nuclear energy right after the Fukushima Accident and the state of the country’s generating of electric energy.
