Pinpoint to Lung Cancer

Elaa Technology, one of the Technopark Istanbul companies established by Assoc.Prof. Tunç Laçin of Marmara University Department of Thoracic Surgery, developed the “3-D Lung Navigation System” in which the lung air and vascular access display.

Laçin, in an interview with ITO Haber, said  about his entrepreneurship and project “ I graduated from Marmara University Department of Thoracic Surgery, I did my clinical specialty in Harvard University and returned to serve my country by refusing the offer. I began to studies on  medical and pharmaceutical R & D activities in Turkey. With my friend and my partner, electrical electronics engineer Assoc.Prof. Gökhan Bora Esmer, we  launched our project of  “3-D Lung Navigation System”. We established our company in 2017 and we entered Teknopark İstanbul with “Volumetric 3 Dimensional Lung System” project.

“3-D Lung Navigation System” integrates the air and vascular access maps of the lungs into bronchoscopy device and provides the shortest and right way to reach the suspicious mass seen in lung tomography. The doctor, who will use the system, connects to Elaa Technology's website and downloads the interface of the system. He also uploads the patient's CT to his computer. The interface is sending the image. The system processes the image in 25 seconds. It takes the 3D navigation of the patient's air and vascular system. After he/she  matched virtual and real image.  The doctor sees at what point he is during the procedure, he receives the tissue sample from that point.

Benefits of a 3-D Lung Navigation System are as follows:

  • Biopsy and treatment becomes easier by the possibility of accesing to there with pinpoint
  •  Resection are taken with 100% accuracy.
  •  It provides one-time and rapid diagnosis.
  • Eliminates recurrent bronchoscopes.
  • It reduces health expenditures by 60 percent.
  • It eliminates bleeding.
  • It prevents unnecessary surgeries.
  • It is used in the treatment of patients who are not fit for surgery.
