Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement  Board

Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement  Board is respponsible for Marmara University’s academic evaluations and quality improvement workings and constituted by the University Senate. The Board comprised of maximum eighteen (18) members including a chair. Amongst members, there are at least one vice rector, one dean, one institute manager, one high school manager, one vocational school manager, one research center manager and general secretary of university and representative for student conseil.

Head of Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Board

The Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Board shall be chaired by the rector. In the absence of the rector, vice rector,  who is also member of the academic Evalution and Quality Improvement Board, shall chair the committe. 

Term of Office of Members of the Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Board

In each two years, one third of the members of the Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Board is changed by Marmara University senate. New members are elected differently from previous  academic departments and acconding to the article 5. Thus, it is provided that all academic units of the university are represented in the board in the course of time. In the case of the  vacancy in the position of the board member due to any reason, the board assign a replacement for the missing member through the same procedure from  department  on which the previous member depended. The new member shall complete for the residue of the unexpired term of previous member.

 

Duties of the Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Board

The duties of the Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Board are as follows:

a. In line with the strategic plan and objectives of Marmara University, to carry out all the activities to be carried out to evaluate the academic and administrative services, to improve the quality and to determine and validate the quality level;

b. To carry out the evaluation studies at Marmara University, to prepare or to make prepared the Internal Evaluation Report;

c. In case of external evaluation of Marmara University, supervising the necessary preparations, giving all kinds of support to the external evaluator institution, organization or board,

d. Working in close relation with the Higher Education Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Commission, conducting studies in accordance with the procedures and principles determined by the Commission and sharing the sample applications with the Commission;

e. To announce the decisions of the Higher Education Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Commission to all units of Marmara University, to follow the practices and to monitor the results of the practices;

f. To support the reports prepared by the Higher Education Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Commission for the higher boards of higher education.

Ethics Committee 

Formation of Ethics Committee

MADDE 5 – (a) Ethics Committee shall be composed of at least nine members, one of whom is the chair appointed by Rector, amongst academic and administrative staff who should not take any disciplinary punishment and commit any violation of the Code of Ethics.

 

(b) The Term of office of Ethics committee members is three years. Members whose term of office terminates can be reassigned. If a member has  failed to attend a total of three consecutive times the meetings without a valid excuse or permission  in one year,  the membership is fallen and the new member is assigned in the place of the old one. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Ethics Committee

ARTICLE 6 - (a) Ethics Committee;

a)Makes an evaluation based on the sufficient and convincing evidence in the problems related to the ethical rules stated in the Directive and declares opinions in the academic and administrative units of the university.

b) Organizes educational and similar activities to improve the promotion and development of ethical life culture in the university and increases ethical sensitivity; It cooperates with the authorities to ensure that the principles of ethical conduct are included in the basic, preparatory and in-service training programs for public officials.

c) Evaluates the ethical problems that arise within the University and make recommendations to the Rector's Office in order to establish expert ethics committees.

d) Makes evaluations and suggestions for the integration of ethical principles and practices of expert ethics committees within the university with the basic ethical principles adopted by the University.

e) Works confidentially in all ethical issues about which it evaluates, makes decisions and gives opinions and reserves all information and documents.

f) The Ethics Committee is directly responsible to the Rector's Office for its activities.

 Animal Experiments Local Ethics Committe 

Purpose and Scope; 

Within the scope of Marmara University, the committe is responsible to determine the minimum ethics standards related to methods and materials used in the basic activities such as scientifical research, test, health services practices  and education and training to be carried out within the laboratory animals; to express an opinion according to the ethics principles, to examine research proposals and to organize the certificate programs towards people who will use the laboratory animals.

 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PRELIMINARY INFORMATION FOR MARMARA UNIVERSITY ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS LOCAL ETHICS COMMITTEE

1. Project coordinator and researchers who are going to work with laboratory animals are required the certificate of experimental animals usage  when they apply to the committee. 

2. Researchers who apply to the committee outside of Marmara University are required to pay an application fee determined by the executive board of university each year. 

3. Ethics committee shall be convened ones in every  month. The deadline for the application is the first thursday of each month. 

4. A printout of the application documents (one form and one contract) must be delivered by hand to the committte secretariat and one hard copy of these documents should be sent to internet address of the related department (muhdek@marmara.edu.tr.). 

5. The result of the application can be learned through the telephone number of secretariat of ethics committee (0216- 3360114) or e-mail address (muhdek@marmara.edu.tr) after the next day of the meeting. It is the reseacrher's responsibility  to follow the  process about result and reporting.

6. The projects that are discussed by Marmara University's Animal Experiment Local Ethics Committee  will not be shared with another third person and kept in the archive of the ethics committee for five years.
