Marmara University International Sustainability Congress

1st International Sustainability Congress started with Head of ICS Center Prof. Refika Bakoğlu’s opening speech, which was held by Marmara University International Sustainability Congress Center in Bostancı The Green Park Hotel between December 1 and December 3, 2016. The invited spokespeople for the opening were Prof. İbrahim Dinçer from Ontario Institute of Technology Canada and Prof. Mustafa Özbilgin from Brunel University England. In the congress, the theme “Sustainability” will be discussed in the framework of economics, social, environment and other aspects during two days. Academicians and researches from the distinguished universities of Turkey and countries around the world, professional participants and experts in this field will come together. In this aspect, the congress has a great importance and aims to provide an environment in which many opinions are shared and new solutions were produced and contribute to economy and future of the country. 

Prof. İbrahim Dinçer being one of the invited spokespeople shared very valuable information about  topics such like generating sustainable energy, energy storage and generating renewable energy by using alternative resources.  Prof. Dinçer, also, suggested that it is possible to generate energy in vast amount with the proper strategies although the energy plays a very important role for the future of the world. Prof. Dinçer emphasized key points for a country such like Turkey that searches for generating energy by emphasizing hydrogen based energy generation, which has begun to be used in commerce, and sources for this energy generation. 

Another invited spokesperson Prof. Mustafa Özbilgin made a speech on sustainable growing of England economy after Brexit, development and social rights. Prof. Özbilgin emphasized that the main reason of England being through these problems is conflicts between generations and expressed that the only way to prevent the problems on sustainability England will face is to constitute a stronger legal system in the speech. 

In the congress, many academicians, researchers and experts will exchange views with many articles and poster presentations. Questions will be discussed and solutions will be searched for the economy of both Turkey and the world during two days of the congress. A panel on sustainable energy and various application will be held second day of the congress, which leading actors in the sector will attend, on December 2, 2016.  In the closing session of the congress, CNRS Institute Director Prof. İskender Gökalp as the invited spokesperson will make a presentation on environment and energy.
