TUBİTAK-1000 Sustainable Growing and Regional Development Workshop

The workshop began with MU Vice Rector Prof. Mehmet Akalın, Dean of Economics Faculty Prof. Şahamet Bülbül and MITTO Coordinator Prof. Ahu Altınkut Uncuoğlu’s opening speeches. Prof. Mehmet Akalın emphasized that the aim of Turkey being in the top ten economies of the world is possible with transformation of scientific studies into social benefits and welfare. In this direction, the importance of the collaboration between industries and universities was emphasized in the speech. After opening speeches, Department of Economics (English Language) lecturer Prof. Fatma Doğruel mentioned briefly about the project entitled "Sürdürülebilir Büyüme ve Bölgesel Kalkınma (Sustainable Growing and Regional Development )" on the behalf of the project team.

Being the first spokesperson of the workshop Kemerburgaz University lecturer Assoc. Prof. Sevil Acar Aytekin referred to the significance of decreasing in environmental sources which leads to impoverishment of the country and natural resources also ranked as capital in order to estimate properly under the concept of sustainability by discussing the concept of sustainability from the perspective of environment and natural resources.  Being the second spokesperson Özyeğin University lecturer Prof. Alpay Filiztekin emphasized the importance of spatial difference and mentioned about the need of creating new developing models by discussing technical differences between growing and developing concepts on many levels. Being the last spokesperson Piri Reis University lecturer Asst. Assoc. Prof. B. Can Karahasan made a presentation entitled “Firma Oluşumu and Dinamikleri (Firm Formation and Dynamics)”. Karahasan mentioned that new firm formations lead to increase in the employment and contribute to the productivity and provide opportunities with the exogeneity that new firm formations create for regions. Karahasan, also, mentioned that the increasing in product variety and the profundity are possible with interaction between sectors. The workshop continued with questions of participant after the speeches and the session was ended with general evaluation.
