University Hospital

Marmara University Hospital has been operating under the name of Ministry of Health Marmara University Pendik Research and Application Hospital in Kaynarca, Pendik from November 2010.

The construction of the 600-bed University Hospital at the Başıbüyük Health Campus, is located in Istanbul, on the Anatolian side in the region of Maltepe. Until the completion of the construction, services are temporarily being provided at the Ministry of Health, Marmara University Pendik Hospital.

Marmara University Hospital, which is targeted to be the most advanced health centre in the Turkish public sector when completed, has been planned to close the significant gap in health services that exists in Istanbul, particularly on the Anatolian side. In addition, the project has been designed in keeping with the latest developments in medicine and medical training, with the latest techniques in research, teaching, diagnostics and treatment being taken into account; the hospital will also be equipped with the most modern equipment. 

The total number of beds in the 26 wards is 600, with 26 more beds in the emergency ward, and 32 in the intensive care unit, making a total of 658 beds. There are 2 transplant theatres, 2 thoracic/heart theatres, 2 neurology theatres, 2 pediatric surgery theatres, 2 plastic surgery theatres, 2 ophthalmology theatres, 2  ENT theatres, 2  orthopedic theatres, 2  urology theatres, 2  general surgery theatres; in addition the 2 labor rooms, 2 gynecological operating theaters and 5 operating theatres in the emergency ward all demonstrate that the hospital has been designed in keeping with the modern medical mission. There are 4 x-ray rooms in the emergency ward, with 11 more in the radiology department, making a total of 15 x-ray rooms; there are 3 angio-gram rooms, and 2 computerised tomography rooms, a nuclear magnetic resonance unit and an after-loading cobalt-60 and linear accelerator unit. 

All the wards, the operating theaters/labor rooms, emergency ward and other sections have medical gas systems. The structure is completely equipped with fire alarms and fire extinguishing systems.

The structure is also equipped with a computer system that can connect the relevant units to one another and a cctv system is projected in the research and teaching units; all the necessary units will use constant power sources.

The construction of the Başıbüyük Hospital has been continuing.
