The 2025-2026 Academic Year Faculty Board Meeting and the 2025 Academic Performance Awards Ceremony, organized by the Marmara University Faculty of Science, were held with a program highlighting academic achievements and institutional vision. The ceremony, held on Thursday, April 9th, at the Faculty of Science Conference Hall in the Göztepe Campus, was attended by the Rector of Marmara University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Okur, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Ali Rıza Özkaya, vice deans, and faculty members.
Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Okur: “The Faculty of Science Holds a Strong Position”
In his speech at the academic program organized by the Faculty of Science, Marmara University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Okur delivered important messages regarding the university’s administrative approach.
Stating that he will act with a management approach based solely on justice, equity, and values, Rector Okur drew attention to the importance of the delegation of authority in academic and administrative processes. Emphasizing that they will remain committed to the principles of transparency and merit in the distribution of staff positions and resources at Marmara University, Prof. Dr. Okur stated that no injustice would be tolerated under any circumstances.
Rector Okur, also expressing his sense of belonging to the university's past, stated that he considers serving the institution as his priority during his term of office.In his speech, Rector Okur pointed out that the rapid increase in the number of universities has intensified academic competition and emphasized that the Faculty of Science holds a strong position in this competitive environment.
Internationalization and Updated Curriculum
Dean Prof. Dr. Ali Rıza Özkaya emphasized that in the restructuring process following the Presidential decree dated July 25, 2022—which abolished the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and established the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in its place—the academic and administrative staff worked in harmony and made significant contributions to the development of the faculty.
Underlining that programs offering 30% English-medium instruction have been expanded in line with the goals of improving education quality and internationalization, Prof. Dr. Özkaya announced that contemporary courses have been added to the curricula and that the faculty building has been made disability-friendly through physical infrastructure improvements. Stating that a significant increase in the number of publications and projects was achieved in the 2023-2025 period in terms of scientific productivity, Prof. Dr. Özkaya noted that they aim to increase the number of annually indexed international publications to 400 and to boost project applications by 50% in the upcoming period.
During the ceremony, awards were presented to academics who demonstrated outstanding success in areas such as publications, projects, citations, and patents, while it was underlined that the faculty's scientific strength continues to grow at both national and international levels.
