Marmara University Libraries celebrated the 62nd Library Week under the theme “Healing Library, Developing Library.”
The events began on Wednesday, April 1, at the Prof. Dr. Orhan Oğuz Library with the “Healing for the Soul Calligraphy Exhibition” prepared by Dr. Ömer Akgül, founder of Kim Psikoloji. As Akgül explained the details of the works to the guests, the exhibition received enthusiastic attention from book lovers and culture enthusiasts. Following the exhibition opening, attendees moved to the Dr. İbrahim Üzümcü Conference Hall for a talk.
In addition to academic and administrative staff, students also showed high participation in the program attended by Marmara University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Okur, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşin Satan, Secretary General Hasan Şahin, and Head of the Library and Documentation Department Dr. Önder Bayır.
Prof. Dr. Sadettin Ökten, a retired civil engineer and academic from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, met with participants during the talk moderated by Önder Bayır. Bayır provided information about Ökten, noting that he had been awarded in the field of cultural history as part of the Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Awards in October 2020. Ökten, highly regarded for his extensive knowledge and intellectual experience, shared with participants his years of experience in cities, civilizations, and cultures. His deep expertise offered listeners new perspectives and was followed with great interest and attention throughout the talk.
During the program, participating academics, experts, and book lovers witnessed the transformative power of libraries from past to present, coming together around the shared value of knowledge and culture. This event once again revealed the role of libraries in cultural and social development.
The event concluded with the presentation of gifts and plaques to the guests.
