Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ece Karşal from the Department of Music at Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, the Marmara Flute Orchestra (MFO) celebrated both its 10th anniversary and the 102nd anniversary of the Turkish Republic by setting a new record for the largest flute ensemble in Turkey during an event held on October 26, making history in Turkish music.
The event, organized in collaboration with Marmara University and Esenler Municipality, took place at Yıldız Technical University’s Davutpaşa Campus. A total of 494 flutists from various regions of Turkey performed together under the baton of Prof. Dr. Karşal. Following the record-breaking performance, Prof. Dr. Ece Karşal remarked:
“We’ve broken a Turkish record. I don’t want to sound overconfident, but I believe this might also be a record on an international scale. I know there were many people who wanted to participate but couldn’t. This was a truly wonderful experience for all of us, and I think it marks a first in the field of music education. We’ve been developing this project for quite a long time, inviting everyone to join. The orchestra brings together musicians from amateur to professional levels. We’ve shared many great moments so far, and I am deeply grateful to everyone involved.”
Following the event, the program continued with the 5th National Flute Competition Award Ceremony and the 10th Anniversary Special Concert themed “Republic.”
