21st Marmara University Medical Student Congress (MaSCo) Begins

The 21st National Marmara University Medical Student Congress has begun.  The opening of the National MaSCo Student Congress, organized every year by Marmara University Faculty of Medicine students, was held on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Dr. Sertaç Sırma Conference Hall, Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry.

The program started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem. In her opening speech, Congress Co-Chair Aysu Özcan, stating that they aimed to shed light on the participants with this congress, thanked all the participants and wished them success. Prof. Dr. Ümit Süleyman Şehirli, Dean of the  Faculty of Medicine, said: “I would like to thank our students who made the congress beautiful with their enthusiasm and our academicians who always supported them.” Marmara University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt said in his speech “Thanks to your work that has been published in high-impact journals and even turned into a TUBITAK project, in addition to poster or oral presentations in previous years, Turkey's first and oldest medical student congress continues with better quality every year.” He also drew attention to the previous successes of the congress.

At the opening conference, in his presentation titled "Medicine on the Other Side of the Atlantic: Observations from 28 Years of US Experience", the Head of Surgical Sciences of the Pathology Department, Koç University, Prof. Dr. Volkan Adsay, talked about the cultural differences of medical education in the light of his first professional experience and shared motivational anecdotes with students.

MaSCo'22, which will continue on the Başıbüyük Campus until May 29, will present many experiences to the participants, from experimental research to conferences and workshops by experts in the field. The "experimental" and "observational" research prepared by medical students with their advisors throughout the academic year will be evaluated by experts and impartial juries. As a result of the evaluation, the researches that are ranked will be rewarded.
