The “3rd International Social Sciences and Turkish Culture Symposium” (SOBİTÜRK), organized by Marmara University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, began its opening session on Wednesday, October 22, at the Dr. İbrahim Üzümcü Conference Hall.
The opening session started with a speech by Prof. Dr. Sevinç Arı, Chair of the Symposium Organizing Committee and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. In her speech, Prof. Dr. Arı emphasized that this year’s symposium, held under the theme “Food Culture / Gastronomy”, highlights gastronomy not only as a matter of nutrition but also as an element of identity and cultural memory. Following her, Prof. Dr. Sebahat Deniz, Dean of the Faculty, noted that the symposium, now in its third year, draws strength from the tradition of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and reflects the faculty’s interdisciplinary vision. She also underscored the richness and healthiness of Turkish cuisine and the importance of raising young people’s awareness about dietary habits.
After the opening speeches, invited speakers Prof. Dr. Abdülhamit Tüfekçioğlu, Vice President of the Presidency of National Palaces Administration, Prof. Dr. Özge Samancı from Özyeğin University, and Aylin Yazıcıoğlu delivered their presentations. Following a plaque ceremony, the session continued with a workshop conducted by Assist. Prof. Dr. Didem Berber.
The symposium continued with concurrent sessions held at the Dr. İbrahim Üzümcü Conference Hall, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Conference Hall, and Amphitheater GZFA 410 of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The program, which will continue in the same halls on Thursday, October 23, will conclude with its final session on Friday, October 24, at the Yıldız Palace.
