Marmara University Hosted the “Erasmus+ Staff Week” on “Digitalization in Higher Education”

Hosted by Marmara University’s Office of International Relations and Academic Cooperation, the “2nd International Erasmus+ Staff Week” was held at the Göztepe Campus from October 21 to 25 with the theme “Digitalization in Higher Education.” The event brought together over 50 participants from 28 institutions across 14 countries to explore how digitalization influences the Erasmus+ program and the internationalization efforts of higher education institutions.

The opening speech of the event was delivered by Marmara University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ümit Süleyman Şehirli. Throughout the week, topics such as digital transformation processes in higher education, opportunities for international cooperation, and Erasmus+ implementations were addressed through various presentations, workshops, and institutional introductions.

On the first day, Merve Nacar from the Turkish National Agency introduced the Turna Portal System—used by all Turkish universities—and explained its facilitating role in digital processes. During the second-day sessions, representatives from European higher education institutions shared their universities’ digitalization strategies. Participants visited the new faculty buildings and laboratories at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex, where they were introduced to Marmara University’s infrastructure. On the third day, Erasmus faculty coordinators from Marmara University presented their departments and exchanged knowledge and experiences. During the “Networking Event” held on the same day, participants had the opportunity to build new collaboration networks, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Güssün Güneş from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences gave a presentation on the university’s electronic information management and digital database services. On the final day of the program, participants experienced Istanbul’s historical atmosphere with a visit to the Topkapı Palace.

The event concluded with a closing session held at Marmara University’s Sultanahmet Campus, followed by a Bosphorus tour.
