New National Engine   Projects in Marmara

The  research  titled “V16 Engine Modernization and V8 Original Engine Project” carried out by Prof. M. Zafer Gül from the Faculty of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Department,  brought to a successful conclusion.

This project, which is a KAMAG project approved by TÜBİTAK with a total budget of 65 Million TL at the end of 2018, has  four pillars in total;  TÜROSAŞ as a public institution, SDM as a private sector, RUTE as a research institute and Marmara University, Mechanical Engineering Department.  The first prototypes of both engines targeted in this project were completed last summer and started to be operated at the engine test centers in Eskişehir-Tülomsaş and MAM-Gebze. While the tests continue in detail, the assembly work of the second prototypes has also started.

The launch of the original engine was held on Friday, December 16, 2022, in the RUTE-Gebze Campus with the participation of the  Minister of Transport Adil Karaismailoğlu and Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, President of TÜBİTAK Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and our  Vice Rector Prof. Dr.  Ömer Akgiray.

Our  V type 16 cylinder engine is a locomotive engine with 2400 HP power. The original multi-purpose engine, on the other hand, weighs 4.5 tons and reaches 1200 HP with its 8 V type cylinders. Both engines have 4 valves per cylinder. The localization rates of both engines are around 90%.
