“43rd Turkish Accounting Education Symposium” Held in Antalya

The “43rd Turkish Accounting Education Symposium” was held in Antalya between May 14-18, 2025, hosted by Marmara University Faculty of Business Administration. The symposium, which was organized with the theme of “Transformation in Accounting Education for a Responsive and Sustainable Future”, addressed the restructuring of accounting education within the framework of changing social and environmental responsibilities.

Speaking at the opening session of the symposium, Marmara University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt pointed out that accounting education should be restructured with an understanding that encourages critical thinking, prioritizes ethical sensitivity and strengthens sustainability awareness. Rector Prof. Dr. Kurt stated that accounting is no longer limited to the compilation of numerical data, but has turned into a multidimensional field of expertise that focuses on the principles of transparency, accountability and sustainability, and said, “This symposium held here today is not only an event where we consolidate the achievements of the past; it is a strategic meeting where we build a common mind and vision for the future.” Speaking at the opening session, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Okur, Dean of Marmara University Faculty of Business Administration, stated that the Faculty of Business Administration has a deep-rooted history in the field of accounting and finance since 1883 and drew attention to the pioneering position of Marmara University Accounting Chair in the field.

Following the opening session, the symposium continued with presentations. Sessions featured contributions from senior representatives of institutions such as the Public Oversight Authority (KGK), Union of Chambers of Certified Public Accountants of Turkey (TÜRMOB), MUFAD, MÖDAV, and Turkcell. Key topics included green transformation in accounting education, ESG reporting, artificial intelligence applications, and sustainability-oriented auditing systems. The symposium concluded with panels, academic paper presentations, workshops, and a gala dinner.
