The First Series Of The "Teaching is Dedication" Panel Was Held

"What a Teacher Should Know 1: Rare Diseases 'Pectus'" panel, which is the first of the "Teaching is Dedication" Panels series, was held by the Disabled Student Unit Coordinator on March 17, 2022, at İbrahim Üzümcü Conference Hall and in which  Pectus Association participated as a guest.

The opening speech of the event, which was also attended by Deputy Secretary-General Hasan Şahin, was delivered by Coordinator Instructor Zuhal Pek.  In the panel moderated by  Assoc. Prof.  Nermin Özcan Özer of the Faculty of Atatürk Education, the Founding President of the Pektus Association, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yüksel gave information about pectus, which is a rare chest deformity and explained that this deformity can be neglected because the patients hide it or the family hides it, but there are surgical and non-surgical treatments that give results.

He also emphasized that teachers' observations during this process played an important role in recognizing the disease and enlightening the family. Havva Çerman Özdoğan and Nuray Aydın, the founding member of the Pectus Association and patient’s relatives, explained how important the support of school administrators and teachers is during a child's difficult times at school, giving examples from their experiences. The panel, which was followed carefully by the students of the Classroom Teaching Department, ended with the presentation of plaques to the speakers.
