“Understanding Mehmet Akif Ersoy and the Independence Anthem”

The event began with one minute’s silence and live national anthem performance of the Music Teacher Education Department Choir. After Atatürk Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Ahmet Şükrü Özdemir’s protocol speech, Music Teacher Education Department Choir performed songs which are suitable to the importance and meaning of the day under the baton of Conductor Prof. Mustafa Uslu. After the recital Department of Music Teacher Education academic member Assist. Prof. Zekeriya Başarslan sang the Turkish National Anthem.

The Indepence Anthem themed oratorio prepared by Atatürk Faculty of Education Department of Turkish Language and Literature RA Asiye Figen Kalkan was performed by the department students and ended with applauses.

The panel was made under Prof. Vahdettin Engin’s chairpersonship in the last session of the program. Prof. Vahdettin Engin shared his knowledge on historical past predisposing to the Independence Anthem. Prof. Mesut Şen mentioned Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s writing style and literary side while Assist. Prof. Mahmut Babacan mentioned Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s educationist side. The panel ended with the presentation entitled “Understanding Mehmet Akif Ersoy and the Independence Anthem” by President of the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Fikir ve Sanat Vakfı (Mehmet Akif Ersoy Literary and Artistic Foundation) Mehmet Cemal Çiftçigüzeli.

In the end of the program, Ertuğrul Düzdağ’s books entitled “Safahat” and “İstiklal Şairi Mehmet Akif Ersoy” provided by Bağcılar Municipality  were gifted to the participants.
