We Sent Prof.Dr. Serap Helvacı to Eternity

Marmara University's lecturer and former dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Serap Helvacı was sent off for eternity after the funeral prayers held at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology Mosque.

The funeral ceremony held at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology Mosque was attended by President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şentop, Rector of Marmara University Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt, Üsküdar Mayor Hilmi Türkmen, Galatasaray Sports Club former President Dursun Özbek and a large crowd.

The first ceremony for Serap Helvacı was held at Marmara University. The ceremony held in front of the Rectorate building was attended by Marmara University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt, Rector of Turkish-German University Prof. Dr. Halil Akkanat, Prof. Dr. Serap Helvacı's family, relatives, colleagues, students and Marmara University employees. Speaking at the ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt said, “Our teacher Serap, besides being a good academician with her publications, research and books, was a very successful lecturer in transferring her knowledge to younger generations. She was a student-friendly academician who put a lot of effort into educating her students. We have lost a lawyer, a teacher our students love, and a very valuable colleague as academics who have worked at the same university for years.” said.

Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akman, “I am proud to be the successor of a valuable academician like Serap Helvacı. We deeply feel the pain of losing our teacher, but at the same time, it is an honor to be someone who left such a valuable memory and artifacts” said in his speech. Prof. Dr. Cevdet Yavuz retired from the  Faculty of Law and Prof. Dr. Gökhan Antalya from the Faculty of Law expressed that it is very difficult to replace Serap Helvacı and he is saddened by losing such a great value.

“I would like to express my thanks to Marmara University for this ceremony. Serap used to say that I spoke well, today it is very difficult to find words to say” said her husband Prof. Dr. Mehmet Helvacı. The ceremony ended with the recitation of the Qur'an by Dr. Musa Gelici.
