Bio Artificial Cornea Production Studies Are In Progress

Marmara University Nanotechnology and Biomaterials Application and Research Center has produced transparent and biocompatible corneas that are immune to rejection.

The studies conducted under this center promise hope for patients who need corneal transplantation.

As the cornea is a vein-free tissue, the traditional treatments for visual disturbances are ineffective and there is a lack of large scale donors worldwide and it leads researchers to produce new solutions. For this reason, the artificial cornea was added to the production of artificial tissues and organs, which have been used frequently in recent years.

In order to meet these needs and to get high efficiency in treatment, 3D printer technology has been used in the production of artificial tissues and organs. With the stem cell-based bio-ink developed by the researchers, there are studies going on the production of biocompatible , transparent and natural corneal tissue that the patient's immune system will not reject.
