Marmara University Has Broken A New Ground in the Field of Connected Vehicles and Intelligent Transportation Systems

Marmara University was the first university in Turkey by equipping the Dragos Campus with Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (K-AUS) including Connected Vehicles / V2X infrastructure and, thus, offering development, testing and service facilities on campus.

With the studies and contributions of the "Vehicle Networks and Intelligent Transportation Systems (VeNIT) Laboratory", K-AUS (C-ITS) infrastructure and service has provided in the following areas within the campus.

Smart Intersection and Signalization

V2X Communication Infrastructure (Roadside Units (RSU) and other communication components)

In-Vehicle V2X Communication Components (OBU and other components)

Connected Vehicles Applications (All applications such as Emergency Vehicle Approaching, Vehicle Convoy-Platooning, Road Work Warning, Sudden Brake Warning, Collision Warning)

Connected Vehicles Applications with V2V, V2I, I2V, V2P, P2V, V2N, N2V

Connected Tools Platform (Connected Tools / V2X Data Collection and Analysis Platform)

Connected Vehicles / V2X Services and Infrastructure

Connected Vehicles - Mobile User Applications (V2P Communication and Applications)

Connected Vehicles - In-Vehicle Driver Interface and Applications

Intelligent Transportation Data Collection Infrastructure (Sensors and their connected components)

Intelligent Transportation Systems Warning System

Smart City Environmental Data Collection Infrastructure (Noise, Emission etc.)

Smart City Environmental Data Analysis and Evaluation System

Determining Road Infrastructure Compliance Infrastructure

Analysis and Evaluation System of Road Infrastructure Data

Vehicle Traffic Monitoring Infrastructure (Camera and components)

Vehicle Traffic Analysis and Evaluation System

The data obtained are analyzed with Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning methods and approaches, and these methods are integrated into systems. In the future, in addition to the existing systems and services mentioned above, other components of the K-AUS will be added. In addition to its infrastructure and services, Marmara University contributes to science and industry with its test/demonstration laboratory and classrooms within the VeNIT Lab (www.venit.org).

Intelligent Transportation Systems carried out in Marmara University Dragos Campus will be realized more comprehensively in Marmara University Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex after the completion of the infrastructure works of the mentioned campus.

The project has been carried out by the VeNIT Lab team under the direction of Assoc. Prof.  Müjdat Soytürk, Faculty of Engineering Department of Computer Engineering. The developed systems and infrastructures are also used in the ongoing three  H2020 projects, and 2 million Euros of these projects are supported by the budget used by our university. Our work and products related to Connected Vehicle / V2X Communication are currently being integrated into the test infrastructures of the European Union automotive and R&D organizations. Efforts will be made to integrate the developed systems and infrastructures into the systems of our country's organizations.

The studies, outputs and current news can be accessed on the VeNIT Lab website (www.venit.org).
