"XIV. Science-Culture Days "Event Has Started

The “Science and Culture Days”, which has been traditionalized by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Marmara University and organized for the 14th time this year, will meet the audiences between 05-09 April. This year,  Science and Culture Days were dedicated to three important personalities raised in Anatolia: Yunus Emre, Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli and Mehmet Akif Ersoy. The opening of the event was participated by  Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. Sebahat Deniz and  Prof. Dr. Messoud Efendiyev and valuable faculty members.  The program was delivered to large audiences via Youtube live broadcast.

Dean Prof. Dr. Sebahat Deniz said, “Our faculty acts with the vision of being a national and international faculty that shapes the future with innovative and creative scientific thinking and it aims to raise creative minds by providing qualified education in basic sciences, social sciences and foreign languages and to serve society, culture, industry and science”.  She stated that this program, which they have been organizing every year for 13 years, reflects their mission. This year,  the 750th anniversary of the death of Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli and the 700th anniversary of the death of Yunus Emre were included by UNESCO  among its memorial and celebration events.  Since it is the 100th anniversary of our Turkish National Anthem,  it has been declared 2021 as the “Year of the Commemoration of the Turkish National Anthem and Mehmet Akif Ersoy” within the Presidential Circular.   Speaking in this context, Deniz said, "We dedicated our program this year to Yunus Emre and Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli, who are the cornerstones of the Turkish-Islamic culture in the Anatolian geography, and also to the poet of the  Turkish National Anthem Mehmet Akif Ersoy, one of the representatives of our struggle for independence."

Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt said, "I am pleased to participate in the 14th Science and Culture Days event, which has become a tradition by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, one of the distinguished faculties of our university”. Stating that science and culture are the development locomotives of countries, Kurt said, " I would like to thank all faculty staff, especially our dean, who took all the necessary precautions during the epidemic period."

A plaque was presented to the retired professors of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and deceased faculty members were commemorated with mercy within the program. Subsequently, a music concert was performed by Hakan Yaşar and Emre Akbaş, who are graduates of the Turkish Language and Literature department of the faculty.

The "14th Science and Culture Days", which will be held with the intensive participation of the departments of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, will last 5 days. The opening conference of the program will be held by Prof. Dr. Messoud Efendiyev, a valuable scientist, who was a special guest of Erol Özvar, and whom we hosted in the mathematics department of our university. Efendiyev will share information on "Convergence of Sciences in the Context of Covid-19" with the participants.
